Without her iconic jewelry: a string of pearls, almost no one could see Queen Elizabeth II. In fact, she wore this necklace and other souvenirs at the funeral of her beloved Prince Philip on Saturday.

The reason why she always returns to this special style is actually due to the family tradition hundreds of years ago.

"Pearls are a queen's tradition, dating back a thousand years-there has never been a queen who did not wear pearls," Leslie Field, author of the book "The Queen's Jewelry," tells people. "They are rare, beautiful and shiny. The more you wear them, the more shiny they will be."

There are also elements of etiquette. It is even suitable for women to wear pearls during the day, and to wear diamonds after 6 pm.

The queen has a large collection of pearl necklaces, some of which are single-stranded, and some are as many as six-strands, but she wears three-strand necklaces most often. Because of the tradition created by Queen Victoria herself, it is thought that she has fallen in love with them from a very young age.

Field said, "She would give her daughter and granddaughter a pearl every year on their day, so that by the age of 18, they will have enough pearls to make a necklace."

Queen Elizabeth’s parents inherited this tradition and gave her a necklace to which they would add two pearls on each birthday. Although Her Majesty did receive a complete necklace at the coronation ceremony in 1937.

Of course, she also wears pearls on the wedding day, and since then, pearls have been associated with important occasions.
